PEX tubing

PEX tubing is tough, flexible, long-lasting, and maintenance-free and the lowest priced tubing useable for Radiant Heating Systems. PEX is easy to transport, won’t corrode, and withstands continuous temperatures to 180°F.

PEX tubing is made from extruded polyethylene plastic similar to plastic drinking water bottles. The polyethylene polymer is then subjected to a process called cross-linking where it is stabilized against break down. The cross-linking is what makes PEX tubing so ideal as a building product. It makes the plastic long-lasting and durable yet retains it's flexibility.

Barrier vs. Non-Barrier: The polyethylene molecules in PEX tubing are spaced far enough apart that oxygen (O²) molecules can pass though the tubing while keeping water (H²O) inside. It is believed that this characteristic of PEX tubing will cause cast iron (ferrous) components in your heating system to pre-maturely fail due to corrosion. Tubing manufactures coat the PEX tubing with an EVOH oxygen barrier to protect the ferrous components in your heating system
